Riverwood Students Commit To Play College Sports

Four students from Riverwood International Charter School have committed to play their sport at the next level.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Four students from Riverwood International Charter School have committed to play their sport at the next level.

Riverwood’s Nate Arney Commits to Play Lacrosse at Vassar College

Riverwood International Charter School senior Nate Arney (Class of 2019) has committed to play lacrosse at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Arney was recruited as a face-off and midfield player for the Brewers, who compete in the Liberty League of the NCAA Division III. He will join his older brother, 2016 Riverwood Graduate Chandler Arney, on the team.

Arney played Varsity lacrosse for four years at Riverwood, serving as co-captain in 11th and 12th grades.

Notes Riverwood Head Lacrosse Coach Mark Horton, “Nate Arney has been a 4-year Varsity player and captain of the Boy’s Lacrosse team. His leadership has been very instrumental in the success of the team. Vassar is lucky to have him next year.”

Riverwood’s Summer Brown Commits to Play Softball at Virginia Union University

Riverwood International Charter School Senior Summer Brown (Class of 2019) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Virginia Union University in Richmond. Brown was recruited as a catcher, shortstop, and third baseman for the Panthers, who compete in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). She will receive a partial scholarship to attend the NCAA Division II school.

Brown played Varsity softball for four years at Riverwood, earning her a Varsity letter her freshman year.

Notes Riverwood Head Softball Coach Julian James, “Summer Brown is a four-year varsity letter player that has never given anything less than 100 percent out on the field. Her athletic ability allowed her to start as our premier catcher the entire year, and we are excited that she will be continuing her softball career at Virginia Union University.”

Riverwood’s Sam Bell Commits to Play Football at SUNY Brockport

Riverwood International Charter School senior Sam Bell (Class of 2019) has committed to play football at The College of Brockport (State University of New York {SUNY}). Bell was recruited as a cornerback for the Golden Eagles, who compete in the Empire 8 League of the NCAA Division III. He will receive an academic scholarship to attend the school, which is located along the Erie Canal, near Rochester, NY.

Bell comments, “The reason I chose Brockport is because it felt like I was a part of the family within minutes of my official visit. They made sure I felt comfortable before they even started talking about football.”

Bell played ninth grade football and three years of Varsity football at Riverwood.

Notes Riverwood Football Assistant Coach Josh Gordy, “When you think of an all-around student-athlete you think of Sam Bell. From taking care of business in the classroom to knowing, understanding, and playing every position in the defensive backfield, Sam was a special player for Riverwood.”

Riverwood’s Graham Young Commits to Play Lacrosse at LaGrange College

Riverwood International Charter School Senior Graham Young (Class of 2019) has committed to play lacrosse at LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA. Young was recruited as a long stick middie for the Panthers, who compete in the USA South Conference of the NCAA Division III. He will receive a partial academic scholarship to attend the school, which is the oldest private college in Georgia.

Notes Riverwood Lacrosse Head Coach Mark Horton, “Graham has been playing long stick middie for us all season and is one of the reasons our defense has had so much success. He will be an asset to the Panthers at LaGrange.”

Graham played lacrosse for three years at Riverwood, two years on Varsity.
