Sandy Springs Celebrates Tree Planting Season

Fall is peak planting for trees in Georgia, so Sandy Springs is planting a Smoke Tree at Lost Corner Preserve on Monday, Oct. 28.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — While Arbor Day falls in February, peak planting for trees in Georgia is found during the fall season.

To mark the start of fall planting, the City of Sandy Springs will add to its expansive urban tree canopy, planting a Smoke Tree at Lost Corner Preserve on Monday, Oct. 28. The Smoke Tree will reach a height of 20 feet and have a 15-foot spread at full maturity. Large, frothy, pink blooms accompany its red leaves, creating the picturesque foliage June through August.

The ceremonial planting will take place at 6 p.m., with visitors encouraged to stay for the Master Gardener Series at Lost Corner starting at 7 p.m. The featured topic is fall tree planting.
