Sandy Springs Commemorates Arbor Day With Tree Planting Ceremony

Sandy Springs, GA -- Next week, Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul and members of the City Council will plant a Hickory tree at Hammond Park in commemoration of Arbor Day.

The ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19.
The Hickory is found mostly in the eastern United States, can live up to 200 years and has a vibrant yellow color in the fall.

The city of Sandy Springs has planted a tree in honor of Arbor Day since its incorporation in 2005, and has been designated a Tree City USA for the past seven years.
Established more than 100 years ago, Arbor Day celebrates and promotes the planting and care of trees. The National Arbor Day is celebrated in April, with the state of Georgia celebration of trees held in February to align with the region’s planting season.
