The Sandy Springs Police Explorers Post 59 competed in the 2013 Metro Atlanta Explorers Championship held at the North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy, in Austell, on Oct. 19.
Five SSPD Explorers competed in the event. 19 police team in the metro participated in the competition and were judged on seven scenario events: Obstacle Course, Domestic Disturbance, Robbery in Progress, Unknown Disturbance, Unknown Traffic Stop, Trouble Unknown, Cell Extraction, and Barricaded Subject.

The explorers were judged on officer safety, locating witnesses, suspects, teamwork, interviewing skills, knowledge of Georgia criminal laws, and a number of other requirements.
Sandy Springs Explorers took first place in the Cell Extraction Scenario and 2nd in the Domestic Dispute Scenario.
