Sandy Springs Striders Win Big at Track and Field Championships
The team took part in the 2017 GRPA State Track and Field Championships, which were held May 5-6 in Augusta.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The Sandy Springs Striders Youth Track and Field Team capped off its season with a remarkable showing at the 2017 GRPA State Track and Field Championships.
The championships, which which were held May 5-6 in August, produced first-place winners and other notable finishes among local team members.
First place winners and state champions included Summerlynn Smith for the 50-meter dash (8 and under girls event) and Nya Milliner for the 800-meter run (8 and under girls event). Summerlynn also placed seventh for the Running Long Jump.

Other finishers included:
- Aaron Terry – second place Shot Put (12 and under boy)
- Tajorn Simmons – fifth place Javelin Throw (14 and under boy)
- Jake Wilson – fifth place Shot Put (10 and under boy)
- Alex Culbreath – fifth place Running Long Jump (14 and under boy)
- Noah Jarrett – 10th place Running Long Jump (10 and under boy)
- Hansen Johnson – 13th place Standing Long Jump (14 and under boy)
“I am very proud of all the athletes who competed this year, and that the Striders have a very bright future with a tremendous amount of young talent on the team," Striders head coach Kevin Scott said.
