The organization hopes that the calendar will help raise awareness of this valuable, yet fragile resource residents have in their backyards.

The photo contest was developed as a project of a group within Leadership Sandy Springs’ Class of 2015 to help elevate the visibility of and provide needed support to WASS, a small nonprofit organization.

The community was invited to submit photos from any of six watersheds and the 12 winning photos are showcased in the calendar. A panel of three judges reviewed the photo entries and awarded the first place winner with $75, the second with $50 and the third $25, with prizes made possibly by Dignity Memorial.

Also Showcase Photo and Video gave each winner a $25 certificate.

The following winners (in order of first, second and third place) are:

  • Streamscapes with People: Charrel Hunter, Amanda Collins, and Beth Faircloth.
  • 12 and Under: William Lawramore (all three placements)
  • Streamscapes with Animals: Amanda Collins, Jack Florek, and Karen Meinzen McEnerny
  • Streamscapes Scenic: Evan Bauman, Calloway Powlus, and Linda Bain
