Since 2009 Family Pie Company Sales Dedicated to Developmental Disabilities

David and Betsy Glass started a Sandy Springs-based pie company dedicated to their daughter, Darden, who was born with Down Syndrome. The couple was honored by the non-profit All About Developmental Disabilities.

Betsy and David Glass were honored last week by All About Developmental Disabilities for their efforts to support disability organizations in Georgia, during the non-profit’s annual Legacy Breakfast at the Atlanta History Center.

Darden Glass, Betsy and David's daughter, was born with Down Syndrome. In 2009, the couple started Darden’s Delights, LLC, a Sandy Springs-based pie company that has grown from a local pre-school bake sale to a profitable national operation. There are eight different types of pie - all made from recipes that go back generations. A portion of sales goes directly to organizations that build and promote better outcomes for future generations of individuals with disabilities.

The AADD organization is dedicated to creating lifelong support, education and opportunities for children, adults and families living with developmental disabilities.

The Glass family learned of AADD when Darden was a toddler. In an effort to better advocate for their daughter, David Glass enrolled in and graduated from AADD’s Partners in Policymaking in 2007.

“The Glass family is a shining example of how we all can make a difference in the lives of those living with a developmental disability,” said Kathy Keely, executive director of AADD.

David Glass said his family is humbled by AADD's recognition. “The organization has been a blessing to our family and many other families touched by a developmental disability," he said.

David Glass is a senior vice president with Glass Financial Group, Inc., an independent financial advisory and estate planning firm. He is also vice chairman for the board of Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.

Betsy Glass is Director of Human Resources for Hatcher Enterprises, Inc., which owns and operates six Hallmark card and gift stores in Georgia and Florida.
