1 Dead, 2 Injured In Fatal East-West Connector Crash: Cobb Police

One person died and two others were injured in a collision on the East-West Connector at midnight Friday. Cobb police are investigating.

COBB COUNTY, GA — One person is dead and two others are injured after a fatal crash on the East-West Connector at midnight Friday, according to Cobb police.

Police said Jose Garcia, 22, of Powder Springs, was driving westbound on the East-West Connector near the South Hurt Road overpass around midnight Friday when he drove off the road, into the grass and began to spin.

Once Garcia was back on the road, he crossed a grass median and entered the eastbound lanes when he crashed into two other drivers: 20-year-old Kiara Waldo of Mableton and 59-year-old Tammy Tatum, also of Mableton. Garcia's car began to roll after he hit the two cars, finally landing roof-first in the eastbound lanes.

Garcia was pronounced dead on the scene. Waldo sustained minor injuries, but was not taken to the hospital. Tatum was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

This crash remains under investigation, though investigators said they do not expect any charges to be filed. Anyone with information is asked to call the Cobb County Police Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit at 770-499-3987.
