44 Atlanta Metro Commute Times Rated First to Worst

ATLANTA, GA — As commuters and school busses get back on the road in most communities this week, here's another look at the best and worst average commute times in the Atlanta metro area, as compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau over five years.

In the American Community Survey, the census asked questions on more than 40 topics and compiled the results over the last five years. Questions included commute times for residents in dozens of communities in Georgia.

At the top, residents in Athens clocked the shortest average commute at less than 20 minutes. The average commute time in Georgia is 27 minutes, according to census estimates.

Lithonia and Stone Mountain had the worst average commute, both at more than 37 minutes.

3. Cartersville: 25.0 minutes
4. Sandy Springs: 25 minutes
5. Atlanta: 25.5 minutes
6. Elder: 25.8 minutes
7. Monroe: 26.1 minutes
8. Bogart: 26.5 minutes
9. Vinings: 26.5 minutes
10. Chamblee-Doraville: 26.6 minutes
11. Marietta: 27.4 minutes
12. Peachtree Corners: 27.5 minutes
13. Tucker: 28.6 minutes
14. Roswell-Alpharetta: 28.7 minutes
15. Smyrna: 28.8 minutes
16. Norcross: 29.4 minutes
17. Fair Oaks: 29.7 minutes
18. Northeast Cobb: 30.1 minutes
