Cobb Libraries Offering Free Tax Forms, But Not AARP Tax Help
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cobb libraries will not host AARP Foundation Tax-Aide this tax season, but will offer free forms and printing.
COBB COUNTY, GA — This tax season, Cobb residents will not be able to get tax filing help through the Cobb County Public Library's AARP Foundation Tax-Aide sessions due to the COVID-19 pandemic; however, residents can still get free tax forms and printing.
Cobb libraries offered the AARP tax assistance sessions for the last few years, in which retired accountants were on hand at various locations to provide help with filing taxes. Some of those sessions were canceled last year when COVID-19 emerged as a global pandemic, but all sessions are canceled this year.
“Public libraries and other community organizations have long provided tax-filing support to the public,” said Terri Tresp, division director of branch services, in the release. “Unfortunately, due to ongoing concerns about COVID-19, Cobb libraries will not host AARP Foundation Tax-Aide sessions this tax season.”

However, CCPL said limited 1040 federal 2020 tax forms and instruction booklets are still available by request, while supplies last. Free printing of federal and state tax forms is also offered as long as the person calls in advance and gives the form number or name; however, this service does not include instruction booklets.
Anyone interested in the free tax forms and instructional booklets is asked to call any CCPL location to request curbside pickup, as all Cobb libraries are closed for in-person services until further notice. Exceptions include Switzer Library in downtown Marietta while it's closed for renovations, as well as Sweetwater Valley and Lewis A. Ray libraries.

Tax season is delayed this year, as the Internal Revenue Service and Georgia Department of Revenue announced 2020 tax filings will be accepted beginning Feb. 12, a few weeks later than the normal schedule.
