In Loving Memory of Annetta M. McClure, 94

Obituary and service information from Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mrs. Annetta M. McClure (Nan), 94 of Smyrna. Nan is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, John Robert (Bob) McClure and her son, Richard N. Wooley; both remained at her bedside in Smyrna until she peacefully passed away following a brief illness on the morning of October 24, 2015. Nan, a thirty year cancer survivor, moved from her teaching position in Marietta, Ohio to Smyrna in 1951 with husband Bob and son Richard. Nan was a devoted teacher of first and second grade students. After she earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Oglethorpe University and Master’s Degree in Education at West Georgia, she devoted the remainder of her thirty year career to teaching early education in Cobb County Schools. Nan was routinely honored by fellow educators for her achievements in art and education and for her selfless service to students and parents alike. Over the years, Nan was an instrumental part in the development of new Elementary Education Standards promoting art education in Georgia as a teacher at both Smyrna Elementary and Belmont Hills Elementary in Smyrna. Nan’s vivid watercolor paintings are collected by many in Cobb County and her children’s art guide book How to Draw Anything from A to Z remains in use by scores of Georgia elementary teachers to encourage artistic interest in students. Nan was beloved by her Elementary and Nazarene Sunday School students, many who’ve continued to visit her at her home in Smyrna years after she retired. Nan’s faith, sense of fair play and spirited personality engaged everyone she met. Annnetta McClure touched countless lives and was an inspiration to those of us who were fortunate enough to have known her. Rest in peace, Gentle Soul. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Smyrna Church of the Nazarene (531 Plaza Dr.) Immediately after the service, Annetta will be taken to her final resting place at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery in Smyrna. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8:00 PM on Tuesday evening. Carmichael Funeral Home of Smyrna is in charge of arrangements.
