Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?

Southers: Kika Stretch Studios Vinings opened in October in the Ivy Walk Smyrna complex near South City Kitchen and next to Natural Body Spa. The Kika Stretch Studios Atlanta studio in Midtown opened in late August and is owned by Stacy Griner. But Kika Stretch Studios has been in business in New Jersey and New York for over nine years. In addition to Georgia, New York and New Jersey, there are Kika franchises in Pennsylvania, Florida and Nevada, with additional locations opening soon in Maryland and Connecticut.
Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Southers: My professional background was in community mental health, and my wife, Virginia, is a corporate attorney, and we began as a clients of Kika Stretch in the corporate office in New Jersey. We enjoyed the overall benefits of this revolutionary service for several years. When we decided to move to Atlanta to be in the same city as our college-age children (Arianna, a public health major at Georgia State; and Jared, a football player completing his master's in economics at Georgia Tech), the owner of Kika Stretch Inc. (Kika Dubose) offered us the opportunity to open a franchise in the Atlanta area. We knew that this great service was a perfect match for our future vocational needs.
Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?
Southers: Life is short, stretch it out!
Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?
Southers: It was difficult finding the right location. We looked everywhere, but fate was kind and we found the perfect place in the Ivy Walk complex with stores and shops who support our mission.
Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Southers: Just like in my previous profession in community mental health serving the public, there’s nothing like bringing a smile to someone’s face when they’re looking for some relief to their life’s circumstances. Our clients at Kika Stretch Studios Vinings have been happy return customers and have diligently referred their family and friends to our studio. We’ve also enjoyed referrals from the other Ivy Walk stores and restaurants, as well as other local health and fitness companies in the area.
Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Southers: Kika Stretch Studios offers a tailored assisted stretch unlike other stretch studios in the Atlanta area. We offer services in a private room, no tables, no bands — just hands! And the results speak for themselves. We also emphasize that other modalities of fitness (yoga, massage, Pilates and personal training) are beneficial and we all complement one another.
Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?
Southers: Serving the clients’ needs are paramount by providing a meaningful service, and establishing personal relationships with your clients is key.
Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors you’re working on that you’re extra excited about?
Southers: Our services will soon be offered on an in-house basis. Not all clients want to, or can, get to the studio, so we are willing to go to them. With our in-home services, our coaches will travel to private homes, as well as assisted living facilities, nursing homes, companies and professional associations of any nature.
Patch: Do you have any events coming up in your community?
Southers: Kika Stretch Studios Vinings participates with other companies and sporting events at their venues to provide demos that illustrate our services. Through the end of January, we are offering free sessions to first-time clients. Starting in February, we will be offering free stretch evaluations and $30 off a 45-minute stretch session to new clients. We will offer various promotions throughout the year, so follow us on social media to be kept informed.
