"The World is Desperately Waiting for Answers "

Ask Congress to support $350 Million for Alzheimer's Research

Reaching the goal of an effective treatment for Alzheimer's and related dementias by 2025 requires substantial funding of research through the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Congress established this goal by passing the National Alzheimer's Project Act (NAPA) in 2012. This Act requires the NIH to recommend funding levels each year to reach this goal in a Professional Judgment Budget report. Dr. Francis Collins Director of the NIH wrote in this report " It continues to be a critical time in Alzheimer’s and related dementias research. The stakes are high and growing higher. With the world desperately waiting for answers, we are uniquely
positioned to keep the momentum in discovery going and to push forward not only an agenda, but concrete, specific guidance and efforts to change the times for the better for millions of affected people—and their families, friends, and communities—who need solutions". His recommendations for research funding in the FY 2020 Budget is $477 million. The Alzheimer's Association and it Advocacy organization Alzheimer's Impact Movement (AIM) supports the $350 million initial budget ask. Hopefully future appropriations in this Fiscal Year will meet the recommendations.
I urge you to contact your members of Congress and encourage them to support the $350 million in research funding for the NIH. The Alzheimer's Association and I thank Congressman David Scott for his ongoing support of research funding.
