The largest source of pharmaceutical byproducts in water comes from the improper disposal of unused medications flushed down drains. Organizations in Cobb have teamed up to educate the public about this issue and reduce pharmaceuticals in our waterways. Kaiser Permanente is partnering with Keep Cobb Beautiful and Cobb Public Safety to provide safe disposal of unused, expired prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications.
A Medication Disposal Day will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 17, at Precinct One, Superstation Eight, 2380 Cobb Parkway NW, Kennesaw. This is an opportunity for residents to safely dispose of outdated or unused medications without even leaving their cars. County staff and law enforcement personnel will be at the location to collect medications and properly dispose of them in compliance with federal law.
Accepted items will include: liquid and pill form medications, sharps and needles, diabetes materials, catheters and tubing. No durable medical equipment will be accepted and nothing will be accepted at any county facility or by any county staff before or after the scheduled drop off day.
