COBB COUNTY, GA — A Cobb County Police Department officer was accidentally shot in the hand by another officer Friday afternoon to save him from a dog attack.
Cobb police responded to a call to "check on the welfare of a child believed to be living in a shack" behind an Austell address just before 1 p.m. Friday. Two officers were checking the area when one was attacked by a dog, Cobb police spokesperson Sgt. Wayne Delk said.
The second officer shot the dog, but one round struck the first officer in the hand during the process. The injured officer was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and dog bites.
