Edith Mae New Brown, 89; Longtime Resident of Mableton

Brown's family will receive friends on Sunday evening; her funeral will be held on Monday afternoon.

Edith Mae New Brown, age 89, of Mableton passed away peacefully late in the evening Friday, November 14, 2014 at Unihealth Post Acute Care of Austell.

Mrs. Brown was born to Earnest L. New and Carrie Kalb New on May 22, 1925 at her childhood home in Smyrna, Georgia. She was one of many children and being the third oldest, she played a key role in caring for her brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Brown was the wife of the late Mr. Carol Brown, the owner of B & B Motors in Mableton. They were members of St. Luke Methodist Church and were long time residents of the Mableton community. They had two children, Shirley and Terry, and were later blessed with three grandchildren, Chris, Stephanie, and Mary Beth.

When she was able, Mrs. Brown enjoyed gardening. She enjoyed the fresh air while tending to her vegetables until later in life.

Edith Mae New Brown is preceded in death by her loving husband, Carol Brown in 2005; parents, Earnest and Carrie New; and many brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Lee and her husband Donnie of Mableton; son, Terry Brown and his wife Scarlett of Marietta; grandchildren, Chris Flowers, Stephanie Brown, and Mary Beth Brown; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving brother in laws and sister in laws.

The family will receive friends 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Sunday, November 16, 2014 at White Columns Funeral Chapel in Mableton. Funeral Services 2:30 PM Monday, November 17, 2014 in the funeral home’s chapel with Pastor Jean Stevenson officiating. Interment will follow at Barber Cemetery in Mableton.
