Former Patient Donates Equipment to WellStar Rehab Facility
The Austell man realized the stationary bike he used in outpatient rehab would work just as well at the inpatient facility.

Thanks to the generosity of a former patient, WellStar Cobb Hospital’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit recently introduced a NuStep®, an advanced cross trainer bike that helps people undergoing physical and occupational therapies.
When he was looking to recognize WellStar for the quality care he received, Austell resident Keith Bilyeu wanted to do so in a way that would benefit patients. He had spent 46 days in the hospital, including time in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit.

“I appreciated being motivated to work hard on my recovery while doing so in a nurturing, caring environment,” he said.
Bilyeu had used a NuStep while in Outpatient Rehabilitation and knew that the easy-to-use equipment would be a great addition on the inpatient side.

“This is really a dream come true for us,” said Patricia Moorhead, executive director of professional services at WellStar Cobb. “Our patients and our therapists love this machine. It will be very effective in helping our patients improve their mobility and strength.”
Bilyeu made his donation through the WellStar Foundation’s World-Class Caregiver Program, which allowed him to designate where his donation would help. The program is a meaningful way for patients to recognize physicians, nurses, housekeepers, volunteers or others who made an exceptional difference in their stay.
WellStar Cobb Hospital’s Volunteer Auxiliary also contributed to the cost of the NuStep.
