This email will provide updates about the 3 apartment complexes on Riverside Parkway who have received 85 code violations. The hearing for the code violations have were set for December 2018, the owners were granted a reset and January 31st the owners received a continuance.The code violations are for the outside of the property, however residents have complaints about the conditions of their apartment.Residents were frustrated about the hearings reset and We Thrive in Riverside in Renters Association and SCLC held a press conference on February 7th. The Atlanta journal constitution and the Cobb County Courier ran stories about the apartments on February 7, February 8, and February 9.Residents attended Cobb County Board of Commissioners meeting on February 12th, residents spoke during public comment.AJC and Cobb County Courier provide updated articles about the apartment complex on February 12thResidents attended the Marietta Housing Authority board meeting on February 13th and spoke during public comment. Marietta housing authority provides subsidies to about 50 families who reside at the 3 properties. the amount they provide on monthly averages $40,000 a month.On Monday February 18, at 9am the South Cobb Redevelopment Authority will host their monthly board meeting. There will be an opportunity for public comment. The South Cobb Redevelopment Authority have been tasked with the redevelopment efforts for the Riverside/Six Flags Community. They acquired the Magnolia Apartments in 2015 and have torn the apartmentsSCRA board meetingFebruary 18 at 9am Mable House Center 5239 Floyd Road, Mableton, GeorgiaWe Thrive in Riverside Renters Association provides resources for renters and encourage renters to be leaders. The Riverside community is occupied by 55 percent of residents who are renters.The apartment complexes in the area with the most issues are the older apartments, and have high turnover in management and ownership in the last 5 years. Residents are paying $800-$1200 a month for rent, which is more than 50 percent of their household. This issue about maintenance at multi family complexes is not a Riverside Issue this is a Cobb issue. Housing for people who make less than $24,000 year is not provided, yet there are companies in Cobb County that pay less than $24,000 a year. Marietta Housing authority provides only 5000 vouchers a year for housing, the wait list is not open and when it opens it is a 2 year or more wait if you are lucky enough to get on the list.Thank You,Monica DeLancy
