ICYMI: WellStar Hospitals' Economic Impact To Georgia: $2.4B

A new report reveals that WellStar Hospital System has generated $2.4 billion in economic impact in Georgia.

WEST COBB, GA -- WellStar Kennestone, Windy Hill and Cobb hospitals generated more than $2.4 billion in economic impact, according to a recent report by the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA). The sum represents nearly 10 percent of the total economic impact from the state's health systems and individual hospitals.

The report measures a number of barometers, including payroll and payroll taxes, employee benefits, facility expenditures and community benefit.

“At WellStar, our first commitment is to deliver high-quality, cost-effective healthcare services to our patients and consumers,” Candice Saunders, president and CEO of WellStar Health System, said in a statement. “Beyond that, we strive to be partners in our communities by offering our team an environment to succeed professionally and personally. As an Employer of Choice, we have created a culture of trust and engagement that allows our team members to provide the high quality, patient- and family-centered care our patients expect.”

More than a year ago, six hospitals joined WellStar, forming one of the largest health systems in the United States. The not-for-profit community health system has spent $7 million in community programs, including the building of the Vinings Health Park scheduled to open later this year.

“Georgia hospitals are making a positive difference in people’s lives, both at the bedside and in their communities economically,” said GHA President and CEO Earl Rogers. “In communities throughout the state, hospitals are among the largest employers and are a key component of the infrastructure necessary to attract business to those areas.”
