Mableton Man Charged with Insurance Fraud

According to Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, numerous clients of Velox Insurance Agency in Norcross said they received cancellation notices from insurers who claimed lack of payment for automobile policies and workers' compensation coverage.

A former insurance agent accused of keeping premiums paid to him for insurance coverage was arrested this morning in Cobb on multiple insurance fraud charges.

Juan Pablo Navas, 30, of Mableton, was taken to the Gwinnett County Jail, where he is being held on charges that include six counts of insurance fraud, three counts of financial transaction card fraud and four counts of forgery.

According to state Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, numerous clients of Velox Insurance Agency in Norcross said they received cancellation notices from insurers who claimed lack of payment for automobile policies and workers’ compensation coverage. The clients had paid their premiums directly to Navas and received paperwork verifying coverage.

"Our investigation has turned up numerous victims of this scam and we expect for additional charges to be filed," Hudgens said. "Velox Insurance has made good on all the missing payments, so their clients now have the coverage they paid for."

Anyone who believes they have purchased insurance from Navas is asked to contact the Consumer Services Division at 404-656-2070.

Additionally, staff from Hudgens' office will be at Velox Insurance from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. June June 3 and June 4 to meet with Velox clients with questions about this investigation.
