Here are several things to do in Cobb County for Memorial Day 2017.

COBB COUNTY, GA -- Memorial Day has always been a special time in the country, offering a respite from the hustle and bustle to remember those who have served the United States as a member of the military.

Families have frequently used the day to visit the historic sites and landmarks from wars past in the area and commemorate told lost in battle, there are many ways to spend Memorial Day weekend.

Several events abound in Cobb County for the holiday weekend. Big crowds are expected at the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Marietta National Cemetery. But there will be smaller events and activities as well around the county.

ACWORTH MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY: The ceremony to honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country will be held on Saturday, May 27 at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial at Patriots Point in Cauble Park.

MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY: Hosted by the National Memorial Day Association of Georgia, this event held at the Marietta National Cemetery honors the service of veterans present and past. The free event begins at noon at the cemetary located at 500 Washington Avenue Northeast Marietta, GA 30060.

KENNESAW MOUNTAIN NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD PARK: On Saturday, May 27, the park will feature a Ranger presentation at 11 a.m. titled "Life Of the Common Soldier," followed by a lecture series titled "Georgia's Historic Women" at 2 p.m. On Sunday, May 28, the public is invited to see artillery demonstrations at staged periods throughout the day beginning at 11 a.m.

SMYRNA MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY: The city of Smyrna will remember fallen soldiers at 20th Century Veterans Memorial on Monday, May 29 at 9:30 a.m. Seating will begin an hour before. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Smyrna Community Center (200 Village Green Circle, Smyrna, 30080).The Smyrna ceremony is organized and officiated by the Smyrna Veterans Committee.

Seating will start at 8:30 a.m. and pre-ceremony/ceremony activities will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m.

ACWORTH SLIDE: WORLD'S LARGEST INFLATABLE WATER SLIDE: The Acworth Slide, billed as the "World's Largest Inflatable Water Slide,"is a 175-foot long waterslide located at Dallas Landing Park on the beach in Acworth.

The MARIETTA SQUARE FARMERS MARKET is open every weekend and features scores of vendors offering fresh and locally grown produce. The market opens every Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Sundays from noon to 3 p.m.

YAARAB SHRINE CIRCUS: The Big Top rises at Jim R. Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Road, Marietta. The circus began on May 20 and ends on Monday (Memorial Day) May 29.

KENNESAW MEMORIAL DAY 5K DASH: The Kennesaw Memorial Day 5K Dash and Virtual Road Race, which is held in honor of the men and women who died in the U.S. armed forces, is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, May 27. It will be held on the Noon Day Creek Trail in Kennesaw. Organizers ask that participants park atTown Center Mall.
