Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck On East-West Connector

Demetrius Dandridge, 43, of Marietta​ died Sunday in the hospital after being struck by a vehicle Oct. 1 in Austell, police said.

AUSTELL, GA -- A pedestrian struck crossing the street over the weekend in Cobb County has died, police said Wednesday. Demetrius Dandridge, 43, of Marietta died Sunday in the hospital, authorities said.

Investigators said the crash occurred when the driver of a gold 2006 Toyota 4 Runner was heading west on the East West Connector in the right lane, just east of Marathon Circle. Meanwhile, Dandridge was trying to cross from the south to the north side of the road (outside a crosswalk) when he was struck by the vehicle, according to Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce.

Dandridge was rushed to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Pierce said. The driver of the Toyota is Sofia Bonilla, 55, of Marietta, Pierce said. Bonilla and a juvenile in the vehicle with her was injured in the collision.

No charges are expected to be filed in the case, Pierce said.
