The People's Candidate Shelia Edwards - Unbossed and Unbought!
Shelia's endorsements are based on her decades of work and reputation within our communities. Shelia can't be bought and won't sell us out!

I'm urging anyone who cares about our community to vote for Shelia Edwards for District 4 County Commissioner! Shelia has the endorsements of over 10 well known community leaders and politicians. Why? Shelia has a proven track record of community work and activism that spans decades. Shelia worked with NASA after the challenger disaster, she fought racial discrimination with her small airport business, and won. Shelia successfully fought to stop the TOXIC waste/transfer station on Veterans Memorial Hwy., in Mableton.
Lets talk about that for a moment. The Waste/Transfer Station had been operating without a permit for years; similar to Sterigenics. The company hired Atty. Gavin Sams to obtain a permit. Gavin Sams is a brillant attorney who specializes in large developments. He is one of a handful of attorneys hired by developers in Cobb County. As an attorney myself, I know much of your success depends on the ability to build relationships. Atty. Sams has built such relationships over a decade. So when the time came, Atty. Sams was able to get the Cobb Zoning Board to approve the Waste/Station permit through a grandfather clause without a public hearing. After that, the final approval by the BOC was considered a sure thing. Every thing was going according to plan when they hit a glitch. That glitch was a resident named Shelia Edwards who lives in Legacy At The Riverline. Shelia noticed a stentch in the air and investigated. She and the other homeowners had no idea they were living next to a toxic garbage dump.
At that time, Shelia met the Mableton Improvement Coalition (MIC). MIC officials didn't believe Shelia had a chance, but she knew better because of her government experience.

Shelia used her expertise in business, government, and community affairs to fight the developer. Through her diligent research and tenacity, she worked night and day to build a strong case. She even enlisted environmental experts, the Chattahoochee River Keepers, and Fulton County Government, that owns nearby Charlie Brown Airport, who was concerned about the adverse impact birds flying into the area to feast on the waste/trash would have on incoming and outgoing planes at their airport. Shelia did her homework. She learned that if birds came into contact with planes, they had the ability to bring those planes down on our nearby community. Her efforts resulted in the community banding together to defeat the permit. When the BOC denied Sams his permit he sued Cobb County. Fortunately for us, he Lost. The businesses and residents on Riverview, Oakdale Rd., Legacy, and Providence, have Shelia to thank for their health and rising property values.
That is why Shelia was quick and correct to point out when Atty. Sams became the biggest contributor to the opponent's campaign. As the opponent was on the Zonng Board and is now running for D4 Commissioner, Atty. Sams is merely furthering his established relationship to get the results he needs. He can count on the opponent to back his future development efforts. We saw this when the opponent vehemently defended Atty. Sams' political contribution to her campaign. She even pointed out Atty. Sams did legal work on the Eddy on the Riverline. The irony is the Eddy on Riverview that Atty. Sams represented would exist if Atty. Sams won the Waste/Transfer case!
