10 Kids Shot By BB Gun While Playing Outside DeKalb School

While students were playing outside Wynbrooke Elementary in Stone Mountain, 10 were shot by someone using a BB or pellet gun.

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA -- An unknown person used a BB or pellet gun to shoot 10 kids playing outside Wynbrooke Elementary School in DeKalb County on Thursday, April 25.

Police are investigating the incident at the school, the district confirmed to the AJC. The school district said the shots did not appear to come from the school grounds, the AJC reported.

According to Channel 2 Action News, an unknown person shot a BB or pellet gun from a wooded area while the students were outside playing.

The students sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston Hospital or picked up by parents, according to the DeKalb County School District.

The school district sent a statement to media outlets saying, in part:

"There was never a threat of anyone getting into the school building and the remaining students were not injured. The health and safety of our students is, and always will be, the number one priority at The DeKalb County School District. DeKalb Police officers are assisting DCSD Police in the investigation. Additional staff and DCSD police will be on-site tomorrow to ensure the safety of our students."

WSB-TV reported that crime scene tape is up around the school's playground, a police helicopter is also flying over the scene and officers can be seen patrolling the neighborhoods surrounding the school.
