DeKalb Certifies House District 90 Election; Runoff In March

None of the six candidates received the necessary 50 percent + 1 threshold to win the special election. A runoff is planned for March 9.

DEKALB COUNTY, GA — The DeKalb County Elections Board certified the results of the House District 90 special election last week. None of the candidates received the 50 percent + 1 threshold of votes to win, so a runoff is planned for March.

Six Democratic candidates — Diandra Hines, Angela Moore, Greg Shealey, Joel Thibodeaux, Stan Watson and Ed Williams — were vying for former state Rep. Pam Stephenson's seat in the state House. Stephenson (D-Lithonia) withdrew her candidacy in September after winning the primary and after holding the seat for more than 15 years.

A total of 3,008 people cast their ballots in the Feb. 9 special election, according to the Georgia Secretary of State's Office. Watson and Moore will be the two candidates on the runoff ballot, as they earned 28.22 percent and 16.95 percent of votes, respectively.
