Hanukkah Begins Sundown Tuesday, Local Events Planned
Celebrate Hanukkah with these events in DeKalb County.

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, begins at sundown Tuesday and goes until Dec. 24. The Jewish holiday commemorates the story of the Maccabean Revolt against Syrian rulers in present day Israel 2,300 years ago.
Here’s a look at some celebrations and observances in DeKalb County:
Menorah Madness: The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta will host three fun nights of Hanukkah at the center located at 5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody. Each session will feature Hanukkah songs with Rabbi Glusman and a lighting of the Menorah. Events are free and open to the public.

- Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Thursday, Dec. 18 from 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Grand Menorah Lighting & Chanukah Celebrations: The event takes place at 6 p.m. on Dec. 17 at Decatur Square.
Grand Menorah Lighting & Chanukah Celebrations: The event begins at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 21, at Yea! Burger, 1017 North Highland Ave., Virginia Highlands.
