The officer went back to his cruiser and called in the traffic stop, finding out that Thompson was wanted on active warrants in New York, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

At that point, Thompson tried to drive away before his car got stuck on a hill, a DeKalb police spokesman told the AJC. The officer ran to catch up with the car, and Thompson got out and fired a gun at the officer. The officer returned fire, and Thompson fled the scene.
