Why go: Help tidy up the nature preserve in this kickoff monthly volunteer service project.

Meet Author Calvin Ramsey

When: Saturday, Feb. 2, 2-3 p.m.

Where: Hairston Crossing Library, 4911 Redan Rd., Stone Mountain
Who’s this for: Families
Why go: Enjoy this Black History Month program. Author Calvin Ramsey, of Ruth and the Green Book with Gwen Strauss and co-author of Belle, the Last Mule at Gee's Bend: A Civil Rights Story with Bettye Stroud, according to the DeKalb county library website, will speak.

“The Best Party Outside of New Orleans”! Fundraiser for Stone Mountain Village Visitor Center Fundraiser

When: Sunday, Feb.3, 5:30 p.m.

Where: ART Station, 5384 Manor Drive, Stone Mountain

Who’s this for: Folks who want to watch the Super Bowl and help out the Stone Mountain Village Visitor Center.
Why go: Party with a purpose! You can indulge in “half-time toddies” and  King Cake “to celebrate Mardi Gras a little early!” organizers say.

How much: Tickets are $20 and include food, beer on tap and iced tea.

Interpretive and Recreational Hiking with Ranger Robby

When: Sunday, Feb.3, 8-11 a.m.
Where: Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve, 3787 Klondike Road, Lithonia.
Who's this for: Those who can take the hikes which are moderate and last 2-3 hours. Probably not good for little kids.
Why go: Get some exercise and engage in topics such as natural and cultural history, geology, forestry and plant life, wildlife, and wetlands.
