Emergency crews and others pulled people trapped in their vehicles from the accident Sunday.

SCHAUMBURG, IL — Five people were hurt Sunday afternoon following a three-vehicle crash on the eastbound Jane Addams Tollway in Schaumburg that shut down lanes of the highway for nearly an hour. The accident was the result of a chain-reaction collision, according to the Daily Herald.

The tollway crash happened at about 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, west of Meacham Road. The occupant of one of the cars told the Herald that the car he was in was hit from behind while stopped in traffic, and the accident kept several lanes closed for 45 minutes.

After the crash, emergency crews and passers-by worked to pull other occupants from their vehicles, the report stated. Seats were torn out of one vehicle in order to free a passenger, and an SUV occupant had blood running down her face after being rescued, the report added.
