9 Names Added To 'Arlington Remembers' List Of Military Members Killed
The nine, along with other local military members past and present, will be honored at the annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Since last Memorial Day, the Veterans Memorial Committee of Arlington Heights has added more names of local military members who died in battles to its "Arlington Remembers" list.
"We have identified nine more 'Fallen Heroes' from our town who died in the Civil War," Greg Padovani, the committee's chairman, tells Patch. "These nine young men were identified through the incredible research of Arlington Heights resident Brian Maloney."
Commemorative bricks for the nine "Fallen Heroes" have been added to Memorial Park.

The fallen, as well as many more local residents, will be recognized on Monday, May 26, at the annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony. According to Padovani, the parade steps off at 9:30 a.m., with a ceremony planned at Memorial Park (Chestnut and Freemont streets) at 11 a.m.
"The Memorial Day Parade honors active-duty, reserve & Nation Guard service members as well as our veterans," Padovani said. "When they pass by you in the parade, please stand, clap and yell 'thank you.' This means the world to those who serve – especially to the young Navy recruits who are just beginning their service to our Nation."

The ceremony is a solemn remembrance of the nation's "Fallen Heroes," which Padovani says is the "true purpose" of Memorial Day.
The Memorial Day Ceremony is the solemn remembrance of our Nation’s Fallen Heroes – the true purpose of Memorial Day. Padovani said all veterans are invited to ride in the parade.
"We have lots of volunteer jeeps for any active duty, reservist or veteran to ride in the parade," Padovani said. "You don't have to be from Arlington Heights — just serving or served our Nation in the military."
To reserve a seat, email Padovani at greg.padovani@gmail.com. Padovani said they are also accepting applications to march in the Parade until May 20.
The Arlington Heights Memorial Library will live stream the parade as it passes the library. Just logon to: https://www.youtube.com/@LibVlog/featured.
