AH’s Hayes Recommends Plan Commissioner Fill Vacant Board Seat

Commissioner Robin LaBedz named as appointee to board, which is expected to ratify the appointment next week.

Arlington Heights Mayor Tom Hayes has chosen longtime resident and Plan Commissioner member Robin LaBedz to fill the vacancy created by his election as mayor.

“In a community of many dedicated volunteers, Robin stands out as the best qualified candidate to help lead our village forward with steady hands in the months and years to come,” Hayes said in a press release.

He cited her impressive list of qualification that includes four years on the village’s Housing Commission and six years as a trustee of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library. She has served on the Plan Commission for six years.

“In all of those roles, Robin has demonstrated a commitment to listening to residents concerns, thoroughly analyzing the issues before her, and then voting according to what she believes is best for the entire community,” Hayes said.

The village board must ratify Hayes’s appointment and LaBedz is expected to be sworn into office on May 20. She will complete the two remaining years in Hayes’s trustee term and plans to run for election in 2015.

“I’m very honored to be selected, it’s really an honor to serve the people of Arlington Heights,” LaBedz said.

LaBedz has lived in Arlington Heights with her husband, Gary, since 1977. The couple has two children. She works as a management analyst for the U.S. Department of Labor OSHA.

“I think of myself basically as a resident, I love the village and have made it my home for a long time,” she said, adding she feels she is reliable, open minded and does not have an agenda.
