Amazon Opening Facility In Arlington Heights
The facility will include an "Amazon Hub" customer service center and package pick-up and drop-off location at the former Nokia site.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — It's been nearly three years since Nokia left a 215,000-square-foot building vacant on the north side of the village. Amazon, the online retail giant, announced at Monday night's Arlington Heights Village Board meeting its intention of occupying the site at 1455 W. Shure Drive. The new facility will function as a package delivery distribution center, which will include an "Amazon Hub" customer service site and package pick-up and drop-off location for the public, according to a petition from the Seattle-based company.
A representative from Amazon presented a number of sign variation requests to the board, all of which were approved. This marked the first time the company has publicly announced its intentions for the property. In April, the Village Board approved a property tax break for Amazon, but property owner Griffin Capital was named on all documents.
According to the petition, vehicular traffic on the site includes customers, office employees, delivery vans, and tractor-trailer trucks. There are three driveways into the site from Cellular Drive and multiple building entrances. In order to guide the various types of vehicles to the appropriate driveway and building entrance, Amazon was requesting larger directional ground signs and additional wall signs.
