Arlington Heights Board Recognizing Retiring Mayor

Village board plans special recognition at Monday's meeting.

Mayor Arlene Mulder spoke only a few minutes at last week’s Arlington Economic Alliance breakfast meeting, highlighting how the village has changed over the last 20 years.

“It’s not the government, it is your time and your money that have made the changes,” she told a group of business owners and community leaders.

But Mulder played a major role, too. She spent 34 years in Arlington Heights government, serving as a trustee then village president for more than 20 years.

She will be recognized for her contributions at Monday’s village board meeting. The board is planning a special presentation to Mulder, who is winding down her tenure and getting ready to turn her seat over to Mayor-elect Thomas Hayes.

The meeting begins at 8 p.m. at Village Hall, 33 S. Arlington Heights Road , Arlington Heights.

Mulder, a retired school teacher who made the role of mayor a full-time position, is close to the village staff and thanked the staff who she said has made Arlington Heights the best place in the world to live, work and play.

An open house is also planned on April 27 at village hall where the public can visit with Mulder and wish her well.
