Arlington Heights Fish Fry Destinations

Area restaurants offer special fish fry and more during Lent.

Eddie’s Restaurant and Lounge knows how to serve up a fish fry.

The Arlington Heights restaurant, at 10 E. Northwest Highway, has been holding a fish fry since it opened in 1949.

“Our fish fry is pretty well known,” bartender Patrick Dufloth said. “People keep coming back.”

There are 74.4 million Catholics in the United States, according to the Pew Institute. Catholics all over the world are observing Lent, the 40-day spiritual journey to Easter.

Lent requires Catholics to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday and on all Fridays during the 40 days, the Archdiocese of Chicago’s website states. The rule applies to Catholics 14-years-old or older.

Which is good news for restaurants and organizations offering a Friday fish fry.

Eddie’s is a popular place for a fish fry. A few years ago, a new owner took over and switched the fish fry recipe from Atlantic perch to cod. The restaurant went back to Eddie’s original recipe and it’s become more and more popular, Dufloth.

It is is just one of the local restaurant stocking up with fish this Lenten season. The restaurant offers fish fry all week but on Fridays, it’s all-you-can-eat for $11.95. Dinner comes with homemade coleslaw and French fries.

The Knights of Columbus also has a fish fry every Friday through March 29 at its hall, 15 N. Hickory Ave. Dinner is served from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Adults are $10, children under 12 $5. Children under 5 are free. Dinner includes cod, fish and chips, coleslaw, French fries, corn bread and a desert table by the Ladies Auxiliary.

Arlington Heights has lots of restaurants with fish on the menu, including Peggy Kinnane’s Irish Restaurantand Pub, Jameson’s Char House and Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant. Many restaurants offer vegetarian meals. A list of restaurants is available on Discover Arlington Heights.
