Arlington Heights’s trustees took care of business this week, passing a few changes to laws on the books.

No Chickens Allowed

The village now has a ban on backyard chickens, along with pigs, cattle, horses, goats and sheep. Trustees approved an amendment to the village’s code that prohibits animals, to address requests from residents to have backyard chickens. The amendment does not include exotic animals.

Atomatic Mechanical Tax Incentive Renewed

Cook County established a Class 6b Property Tax Classification to help promote economic growth in the county. The Class 6b gives companies a break on property taxes. Companies are assessed at 10 percent rather than 25 percent on the property. Atomatic Mechanical, 3733 N. Venture Drive, obtained a Class 6b in 2002. Renewals are based on growth projections. The company is expected to hire 24 full-time and three part-time employees in the next three years.

Village Passes Ordinance Outlining Reimbursement for Ridge Ave. Improvements

An Arlington Heights resident who made $159,600 worth of road and water improvements to a property on Ridge Avenue will get reimbursed by property owners who will benefit from the improvements. Karl Steinle paid to extend the roadway and water main to a lot on Ridge Avenue. The village passed an ordinance requiring owners of any property that benefit from the improvements reimburse Steinle.
