Arlington Heights Welcomes New Mayor, New Trustee
Tom Hayes sworn in as mayor, joined by Trustees Joseph Falwell, Bert Rosenberg, Thomas Glasgow and new trustee Jim Tinaglia.
A familiar face took the mayor’s seat on the Arlington Heights board while a new trustee took the oath Monday night.
Tom Hayes pledged to work with the village board, staff and the community to make sure the village’s quality of life remains second to none, he said after being sworn in by 3rd Municipal District Judge Martin Agran.
Hayes thanked his family, supporters and campaign officials, one of who advised him not to read any of the blogs during election season.

He read a few anyway.
“One of the kinder blogs I saw was one individual who predicted the outcome. (He said) I think Mr. Hayes is going to win but he has the personality of the downtown clock tower. I guess there are worse things to be compared to,” Hayes said, adding he is working on being a little more outgoing.

“I wanted to thank all of those who voted for me and for those who did not vote for me I hope I can win your trust,” Hayes said.
His first role as mayor was administering oaths to Rosenberg is now the senior trustee.
New to the village board is Jim Tinaglia. A longtime Arlington Heights resident, Tinaglia credited his wife for encouraging him to run. He said he has learned a lot and has a lot to learn.
Tinaglia fills a seat vacated by Norman Breyer, who did not win reelection. He had served as trustee from 1993 to 1997 and elected again in 2005. Outgoing Mayor Arlene Mulder presented Breyer with a special recognition.
Following the swearing in ceremony, the board got down to business.
One of its orders of business was approving a request from Napleton Arlington, 1155 W. Dundee Road, for five wall signs on its building. The village usually allows one sign, but the dealership requested additional signs to due to a Chrysler Corporation requirement for franchises.
A Napleton Arlington representative said the dealerships is expecting to open on May 20.
