National chains are varied in their opening plans for the holiday celebrated across Christian faiths. At least 38 chain stores plan to close for Easter, with at least 23 opening for at least a part of it, according to a list from the coupon company RetailMeNot.
Walmart, Rite Aid and Fresh Market are among the grocery giants staying open for at least part of the day, the list shows. At least two stores that require a membership to shop there, Sam’s Club and Costco, will be closed, however. Retail stores that do not specialize in groceries, such as Kohl’s, Marshalls and JCPenney, will also be closed.
Target and Publix are among the others that plan cross-country closures.
Pharmacy stores with locations all over the country — such as CVS, Duane Reade and Walgreens — will largely be open for their regular Sunday business hours. Kroger will be open for grocery shopping, but its pharmacy will be closed.
Some national stores with local franchises, such as Albertsons, vary on opening plans from store to store, Offers.com reports.
Although the coronavirus vaccine rollout continues and many states are lifting pandemic-related restrictions, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still urges people to limit grocery trips and use curbside pickup or delivery options when possible to limit the virus’s spread.
Meijer, Stop & Shop and Walmart are among the chain stores offering curbside pickup and delivery.
