Illinois State Police Investigate Road Rage Stabbing on I-290

State police are looking into a road rage incident in nearby Elk Grove, where a suspect was stabbed in the chest after pummeling a driver.

ELK GROVE, IL - State police are investigating a road rage incident that occurred last week in nearby Elk Grove, where a suspect was stabbed in the chest after pummeling another driver.

The altercation reportedly occurred around 4 p.m. on Friday, July 7, along southbound Interstate 290, just north of Biesterfield Road, according to Illinois State Police.

They said it was there that suspect Daniel Amezcua, 25, of Rolling Meadows, pulled next to the victim’s vehicle and began yelling. He then drove in front of the victim and stopped in the lane of traffic, causing the other driver to slam on his breaks.

"(Amezcua) immediately got out of his vehicle and confronted the victim inside his vehicle," police said. "(He) punched the victim in the head and face multiple times while the victim was sitting in his vehicle. The victim grabbed a knife, which was located inside his vehicle, and stabbed the suspect once in the chest."

The victim drove away from the scene and Amezcua reportedly followed him off the highway and into Elk Grove. Elk Grove police and Illinois State troopers found both vehicles at the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Devon Avenue.

Amezcua pulled into a gas station and was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He was subsequently charged with one count of battery and released on a personal recognizance bond.

The incident remained under investigation on Wednesday. No further information was released.

Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed this incident to call state police at 847-294-4400. Callers can remain anonymous.
