Late Snowfall Drains Arlington Heights’s Salt Supply

Public Works recommends purchasing an additional 1,500 pounds of salt.

Who would have thought a few months ago that the northwest suburbs would be facing a March snowstorm?

Winter had been mild until there were 11 winter events in February, Arlington Heights’s Public Works reported. Each snow event has continued to drain the village’s salt supply.

Then there was an ice storm which required the village to use 590 tons of salt in one day, staff said.

The result is that Arlington Heights needs to purchase an additional 1,500 tons of salt, which will cost the village $80,070 to ensure there is enough in the case it is needed.
