“This has been a long year for everybody, and we sensed the light at the end of the tunnel when the first vaccine arrived in December. But with three vaccines now and a county-wide system to equitably and efficiently administer many more doses in the future, we can now also see that light getting closer,” said Dr. Rachel Rubin, Senior Public Health Medical Officer and Co-Lead, Cook County Department of Public Health, in a release. “Passing that awful figure of total cases allows us to pause and salute everyone who has been a part of our efforts in CCDPH and to thank every resident for their patience.”

Since March 1, 2021, nearly 200,000 doses have been administered across suburban Cook County. About 70 percent of the age 65 and over population has received at least one dose of vaccine.
