Palatine Residents Object to Proposed Multi-Family Building for Special Needs Adults
The Home Garden Acres Residents say they object to the rezoning of the lots, but not the use.

Residents in the Home Garden Acres subdivision in Palatine do not want to see two lots rezoned to allow multi-family housing. Specifically, they do not want to see the Caryne Court Project proceed, the Journal Online reported.
“Plans call for a total of 31 one- and two-bedroom apartments in an approximate 57,000 sq. ft. facility including full kitchens and bathrooms along with each unit fully furnished,” the Journal reported. “Caryne Court would be for people living with disabilities who are able to live independently, yet would thrive with the benefits of permanent affordable, supportive housing.”
In question is a plot of land at 1500 North Hicks Road. The plot is zoned single-family and would have to be rezoned to house the project, which would also include about 50 parking spaces.

Residents in opposition of the rezoning have launched a Web site, which includes an online petition. The site lists objections to the potential rezoning.
“We, the people who live near the proposed zoning change, have to ask the Palatine Zoning Board and the Village Officials to uphold the statement from the actual definition of the Palatine comprehensive plan: preserve the existing community character,” the Web site states. “If one particular development is able to change the single family R1 zoning on N. Hicks Road, where would the Palatine Zoning Board set a new boundary without leaving itself open to lawsuits based on discrimination for future potential requests of rezoning all along N. Hicks Road bounded by Dundee and Northwest Highway.
