13-Year-Old Shot In Drive-By Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries

Aurora drive-by shooting could be the result from an earlier altercation at a pizza place, or could be gang-motivated, police say.

AURORA, IL — A 13-year-old boy is undergoing treatment for injuries sustained from a drive-by shooting Saturday at the 1000 block of Kane Street. The boy was walking with his 17-year-old brother, police said, when at least one shot was fired from a red vehicle, possibly a Hyundai sedan with dark tinted windows headed east around 4:20 p.m.

Police said the car made its way toward Farnsworth Avenue. Meanwhile, the older brother was able to flag down a deputy from the Kane County Sheriff's Office for help. Aurora police said the boy suffered a life-threatening head injury and is currently undergoing treatment at a suburban hospital. He was initially treated at an Aurora hospital.

Police said the boys were involved with a verbal altercation with at least one other man minutes before the shooting. The incident happened at a pizza place that is connected to a gas station in the 1100 block of E. New York Street. They don't know for sure if the argument is connected to the shooting. Another possibility is that street gang motivation may have played a role.
