2 Illinois Cities Ranked On Best & Worst For Singles List
One city ranked in the top ten, another is far down the list of best places to thrive as a single and find a partner.

AURORA, IL — Aurora ranks low on the list of large U.S. cities for singles to thrive and find a partner, according to a study from Wallethub released Monday. Chicago, however, ranks in the top 10. To find how these two Illinois cities fared, the Washington D.C.-based personal finance website used 32 weighted metrics to determine their ranks. Those factors include the accessibility of cheap thrills for date nights, nightlife options per capita, population breakdown and more. The indicators were measured across 182 U.S. cities.
Aurora ranked no. 116 on the list. It’s relatively inexpensive, and ranked no. 160 for fun and recreation. In dating opportunities, it came in 69th place. It’s flanked by Anchorage, Alaska, Toledo, Ohio, Casper, Wyo. and Peoria, Ariz.
Despite Chicago’s high cost of living, it managed to snag the no. 7 spot on the “best city for singles” list. It secured the same spot in the fun and recreation category and no. 21 for the dating opportunities category.
Chicago ranked just below Seattle and above Portland, Ore.

Metrics used for the economics category measure the affordability of the area, like the costs of restaurants and meals, beer and wine, movie ticket prices, taxi costs, housing costs and how much it costs for a visit to the salon. Rankings in the fun and recreation category are determined by weather, walkability, shopping and fitness centers per capita, attractions, coffee shops and more.
