2 Percent-Ish Property Tax Hike For Dist. 204

Naperville & Aurora homeowners in the district boundaries will see about a 2 percent property tax increase.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A tax levy for Indian Prairie School District was adopted Monday. The board’s levy request of DuPage and Will counties for 2017 is $264.9 million in property taxes, according to a memo on the district’s website. That’s an increase of 3.9% over the 2016 extension. That figure does not include the $27 million that will be used to pay bonds and interests.

There was no pushback from the public, according to an article from the Naperville Sun. District 204 covers portions of Naperville and Aurora. Seventy-five percent of Naperville 204 homeowners’ taxes go to schools. For the aurora portion, it’s 60 percent.

Chief School Business Official Jay Strang told the Sun that homeowners won’t quite feel the full effects of the increase because of new construction and an increase in property values. It will feel more like 2 percent for existing properties. That translates to about $50 a year more on a $300,000 home.
