AURORA, IL — Aurora residents and visitors will be getting three new public parks just in time for summer. The new spaces include Mundy Park, which was reopened Saturday after a recent redesign, Palace Street Park, and a new feature at Phillips Park Mastodon Lake.

On June 28, Mayor Richard Irvin will attend the ribbon cutting for Mastodon Island Peninsula Park. The new park, located within Phillips Park Mastodon Lake, features winding walking paths and interactive pods and playground equipment that lead up to a large, roaring mastodon.

“Children are amazed to know they are standing in the same place where giant Mastodons roamed 10,000 years ago," Aurora Parks and Recreation Superintendent Gio Santana said in a news release about the new park.
