78% Of Kane County Educators To Take Coronavirus Vaccine
More than 11,000 Kane County teachers and school staff members have opted to get the coronavirus vaccine this month, officials said.

KANE COUNTY, IL — More than three-quarters of Kane County educators are ready to take the coronavirus vaccine, according to public health officials.
The Kane County Health Department said it will start vaccinations Monday for about 11,500 teachers and school employees, with 78 percent of the county’s educators opting to take the vaccine.
“This is one step in the process of returning to in-person learning,” said Patricia Dal Santo, the regional superintendent of schools in Kane County.

Educators are set to receive the first dose of the vaccine this week at several vaccinations sites across the county, with officials thanking Advocate Aurora Health Sherman Hospital, VNA Health Care, the Greater Elgin Family Care Center and the Kane County Medical Reserve Corps for playing “a critical part in getting the vaccinations out.”

“This is a great example of a community coming together at a time when it needs it most,” KCHD Interim Executive Director Kathy Fosser said.

Educators are among the nearly 3.2 million people in Illinois who are eligible to receive a coronavirus vaccine during Phase 1b. Phase 1b also includes Illinois residents over 65, first responders, day care staff, factory workers and farmers, grocery store workers, people in prison and public transit employees.
Public health officials are urging people to continue wearing masks and practicing social distancing to reduce the spread of the coronavirus until vaccines are more widely available.
