Aurora Child Porn Case Deadline Extended

The Aurora man— currently locked up in Chicago— is accused of producing child porn with the app Musical.ly.

AURORA, IL — Prosecutors in a child pornography case have another month to return indictments against an Aurora man accused of producing porn with an app. Richard Barnett, 39, lost his job with the Federal Aviation Administration Dec. 29, the Aurora Beacon-News confirmed Thursday.

According to a complaint filed in federal court in Chicago, Barnett is accused of using the screen name "davidbanks1014" to talk to underage girls through the social media platform musical.ly, enticing them to produce sexually explicit photos or videos of themselves to him, according to a complaint filed in federal court in Chicago. Some victims told police that "davidbanks1014" claimed to be just 13 years old.

Barnett was arrested in October after federal authorities seized multiple electronic devices and several firearms during a court-ordered search at his Aurora home, according to Patch. He was charged with producing child pornography, which carries a 15 - 30 years if he's convicted, and one count of transporting child pornography, a charge that carries a mandatory minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years.

The Beacon-News reports the extended deadline to file an indictment was Jan. 14, which has been delayed by another 30 days. The extension has allowed prosecutors to file more information while Barnett is incarcerated in Chicago.
