Aurora To Deliver Turkey Dinners To Elderly For Thanksgiving

The city will deliver Thanksgiving dinners to low-income areas seniors and disabled residents on Monday.

AURORA, IL — Aurora wants to give thanks to its elderly residents who may not be able to have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner in 2019. Mayor Richard Irvin announced in a news briefing Tuesday that he and his staff will pass out turkey dinners at public housing facilities, low-income areas, and churches.

Irvin was joined by Alderwoman Sheketa Hart-Burns, who said, "We do realize that our seniors and people with disabilities may have a need." The turkey dinners will be dropped off at low-income housing areas in the city, including Constitution House, Centennial House, and Lutheran Social Services, Hart-Burns said.

Irvin himself was raised in a public housing facility and plans to visit that complex to pass out turkey dinners to its current residents. "That's his way of saying, 'I remember,'" Hart-Burns said.

Irvin, Hart-Burns, and other volunteers will also visit Forest Ridge and Impact Church, where Hart-Burns says there are hundreds of members in need.

"On Thanksgiving, I want to make sure we give thanks to our seniors who have given so much to our community and show them our appreciation by providing turkey dinner for them next week," Irvin said.
