Aurora OKs $2.5M Coronavirus Relief Package For Restaurants, Bars
Many restaurants and bars in Aurora have suffered significant losses since the start of the coronavirus pandemic last spring.
AURORA, IL — Dozens of Aurora businesses are set to receive a helping hand from the city after aldermen approved a multimillion-dollar coronavirus relief package.
The Aurora City Council passed several initiatives worth nearly $2.5 million, with about $1.2 million to be sent to businesses in the form of grants. The city is set to provide about $1 million in relief to businesses by not collecting food and beverage taxes for three months.

An additional $250,000 in relief would be given through a yearlong pause on license fees for businesses with onsite-consumption liquor licenses.
About $1 million for the proposed grant program — known as the Coronavirus Emergency Relief Fund — will come from a budget surplus, with an additional $200,000 to be added to the fund through savings from eliminated City Hall jobs, the Aurora Beacon-News reported.
