Aurora PD publishes Crime Statistics

Violent crime in Aurora declined 2.9% from 2015 to 2016

The following crime statistics were provided by the Aurora Police Department:

"2016 Year-End Crime Stats: Violent and Property Crime Drop; Total Major Crime Down 6.2%.
• Violent Crime Declines 2.9%; Property Crime Falls 6.8%
• Five of Eight Major Crime Categories---Murders, Sexual Assaults, Assaults/Batteries, Burglaries and Thefts---all decline; Robberies flat.
• Firearm Discharges Also Down
• 10 and 20 Year Trends Continue to Show Impressive Drops

Murder- 7 (9)- Down 22.2%
Criminal Sexual Assault-57 (60)-Down 5%
Aggravated Assault/Battery-437 (451)-Down 3.1%
Robberies-130 (130)- No Change
Total Violent Crimes-631 (650)-Down 2.9%
2016 Property Crimes (Compared to 2015):
Burglary-441 (471)-Down 6.4%
Theft-2260 (2458)-Down 8.1%
Total Property Crimes-2889 (3101)-Down 6.8%

** The Only Property Crime Categories that Increased were Motor Vehicle Thefts to 167 from 160 in 2015, or 4.4% and Arson to 21 from 12 in 2015 or 75%

132 (142)-Down 7%
*Six of the Seven Murders were by Gunshot(s)
*40 People were Injured in 33 other Shootings
*86 Incidents resulted were Property Damage or Nothing Was Hit
20 Year Trends:
Violent Crime-Down 29.1%
Property Crime-Down 48.1%
Total Crime-Down 45.5%
Shootings-Down 63%
10 Year Trends:
Violent Crime-Down 20.1%
Property Crime-Down 41.8%
Total Crime-Down 38.8%
Shootings-(Up 24.5%)"
